Memories of a cup
During the World Cup, a giant screen was mounted in Copacabana allowing supporters to watch games on the beach. Not everybody was interested.
Traditionally some streets in Rio are closed during Brazil matches. Giant screens are mounted and brazilians get together to support their team. Alzirao is one of such places.
Alzirao Street. Missed chance for Brazil.
From inside the Favela "Chapel Mangueira" in Copacabana. Football game, nice view, barbecue and beers.
Favela "Tabarez Bastos". Just a few hours left to the quarter final game.
Favela "Tabarez Bastos". It's a tense game.
A bit of faith always helps.
Brazil just scored a goal.
Tears of joy.
Neymar is the undisputed idol of the Brazilians.
"Lapa". Semi final game. Things are not going well for Brazil...
"Lapa". Things are getting even worse for Brazil against Germany.
"Lapa". Few Brazilian are still watching the game after the first half. For the few that do it's a long agony.
Final day. Argentinians invade Rio de Janeiro and Copacabana beach.
Most of them slept on the beach in Copacabana.
Copacabana beach. The final affront. The number 10 shirt of Diego Armando Maradona hanging in "enemy's territory".
During the World Cup there were several protests and events aimed at catching public opinion's eyes. Here the local Batman pays his respect for all the people (represented by crosses) that had their houses relocated, against their will, due to the event....
...and gets his moment of fame.
Military Police and Special Police forces were keeping a close eye on every protest.
